Ostrya Virginiana, or more commonly know as Hophornbeam, is a tree shrub with green foliage and yellow flowers of the genus Ostrya. It has a slow growth rate and a height of 45 feet at maturity. Its duration is perennial which means it will grow year after year. It's active growth period is spring and summer, blooms during mid spring and is tolerant of shade. Ostrya Virginiana or Hophornbeam's floral region is North America US Lower 48, specifically in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
