Magnolia Virginiana, or more commonly know as Sweetbay, is a tree shrub with dark green foliage and white flowers of the genus Magnolia. It has a moderate growth rate and a height of 60 feet at maturity. Its duration is perennial which means it will grow year after year. It's active growth period is spring and summer, blooms during summer and is somewhat tolerant of shade. Magnolia Virginiana or Sweetbay's floral region is North America US Lower 48, specifically in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
